Richard Shoudy Obituary

In the early morning of February 18th, Richard Shoudy passed away surrounded by loving family at UPMC Williamsport after being cared for by many kind and compassionate nurses and doctors.

Richard “Rick” Shoudy was born on May 6, 1952 in Basking Ridge, New Jersey to parents Alice Meriam Hendershot and William Allen Shoudy Jr, who proceeded him in death as well as two siblings, Patricia Harer and Thomas Shoudy. Rick was the youngest of four siblings. His childhood was filled with days playing the guitar by the pool, adventures with his dog Sandy and skipping school to go to Seaside Heights. In 1970 he graduated at Somerville High School. Shortly after in 1971 he joined the Navy where he was stationed at Grand Turk until 1975. It was in 1979 that he came to Pennsylvania and met the love of his life Linda Welshans whom he married on December 17, 1981. When talking about the moment they met, Linda would always say she knew as soon as she got in the car that she was going to marry him.

Rick can be described by those who knew him as loving, hilarious, at times eccentric, and full of wit and wisdom. He was an avid fan of NASCAR races, Dale Earnhardt, and anything to do with cars and motors. Most days you would find him in his recliner watching Roadkill, NCIS and of course FOX news. He also spent his time with his wife while she watched her soap operas, being her chauffeur, playing his golf game on his phone and perfecting his perfectly timed jokes. On occasion you could even catch the two dancing in the rain..

In a life full of humor and love, together the two welcomed three children Rikki Allen, Justin (Ashley) Shoudy, and Michaela Shoudy and her long time partner and part time caregiver to Rick, Robert Wyss. They also opened their home to each and every friend that the three had. Their house was and always has been filled with the laughs of the many children who passed through. Rick is also survived by his six Grandchildren whom he cherished and adored; Kristin Driver, Abigale (Aaron) Kramer, Maci Shoudy, Aubree Davis, Easton Shoudy and Tilly Wyss. In addition to his grandchildren, he has four Great-Grandchildren; Dorian, June, Leon and Aspen along with one sister, Elizabeth Shoudy and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all of the friends he has made through his life who continue to support his wife and all the wonderful nurses and doctors who cared for him in the last month of his life, helping ease his journey.
